Dit jaar overleed op 72-jarige leeftijd Russell Means (10 november 1939 - 22 oktober 2012), film acteur, regisseur, schrijver, activist.

Russel Means was een Oglala-Lakota Sioux - zijn oorspronkelijke naam was Oyate Wacinyapi(Werkt voor het Volk).

Hij leidde de American Indian Movement en was woordvoerder voor de activisten tijdens de opstand bij Wounded Knee in 1973.

Als acteur kreeg hij grote bekendheid met zijn rol als Chingachook in de film "Last of the Mohicans"
